DVF Inspired Summer Wrap Dress

Just in case you happened to miss it, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Diane Von Furstenberg’s absolutely ICONIC wrap dress.  The versatility is nearly unmatched. Changing the hem length or the fabric or adding a collar can completely change the vibe.  It is one of the few silhouettes that is nearly universally flattering. The shape of this dress snatches your waist and enhances curves.  I have one from DVF and have made a few wrap dresses for myself.

Needless to say, I love a wrap dress and was thrilled to see that McCall’s pattern company re-released the wrap dress pattern V2000.

To celebrate this anniversary, DVF collaborated with Target to produce a line that was at a very accessible price point. And of course there were wrap dresses included. The drop inspired me to integrate more wrap silhouettes into my wardrobe. I absolutely love the this orange ginkgo print wrap dress that I got from Target.

Though I did get the V2000 pattern, I reached into my own archives and used McCalls M7662 for this first in a series of wrap dresses and jumpsuits that I plan to make.  The pattern has a wrap dress with a band that make an opportunity for a contrast and a collar.  There is also an option for a wrap jumpsuit.

As usual, the pattern is only half the battle.  I wanted to make something summer appropriate and this off-white eyelet knit from Boho fabrics was perfect.  It is so incredibly soft. It is translucent so I definitely needed a lining for this dress.  Without the lining, it would have made a great beach dress/bathing suit cover up.  I could also seen this fabric being great for lingerie.  I used a lush double brushed poly knit for the lining and have to give a special thanks to Boho Fabrics owner Emily Pritts for finding the perfect color match.

And I absolutely love the finished dress!!!!
